Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque claims that President Rodrigo Duterte prefers to wear inexpensive watches.
Roque issued the comment after Senator Dick Gordon slammed Duterte and Senator Bong Go for visiting luxury watch stores in Greenbelt 5, Makati City after Go filed his candidacy for vice president last Saturday.

While he confirmed that the President entered stores selling high-end watches, the secretary said “this was purely by chance since the watch stores are situated near the entrance of the mall.”
Duterte did not buy any watch from these shops, he clarified.
“He went inside because he personally knew the tindera selling those watches. They are his amiga since he was still a mayor 15 years ago and had a few minutes of conversation,” according to Roque.
“The President prides himself in wearing inexpensive watches. The President reckons it is probably Senator Richard Gordon who has a collection given that he owes the Philippine government P86-M,” he added.
In March this year, ANCX reported that Duterte has a penchant for IWC – a luxury Swiss watch manufacturer – timepieces, citing that the chief executive was once seen wearing an IWC MARK XVIII and a Pilot’s Watch Automatic Spitfire.
During his final State of the Nation Address last July, the President revealed that he was given a Patek Philippe watch but asked his aide to throw the luxury watch into the Pasig River.
