Protect, not harass, OFWs.
Senator Nancy Binay has slammed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for reportedly asking Taiwan to deport a Filipino worker for alleged cyberlibel.
Binay reminded labor authorities about their responsibility to protect the welfare of Filipino workers abroad instead of harassing the modern-day heroes. She said labor officials should not become the new “makapili” during these times.
“Makapili” is the term used to described treacherous Filipinos who acted as spies of the Japanese during the second world war.
“Paalala lang po sa mga labor attaches na kayo ang kanlungan at sandigan ng ating mga OFW. Wag maging Bagong Makapili sa harap ng mga bagong bayani,” Binay tweeted.
The DOLE earlier accused a Filipina a caregiver of alleged cyber libel after posting alleged messages maligning President Duterte and destabilizing the government on social media. It reportedly asked Taiwan to deport the Filipino worker.
