Only those with a quarantine pass will be allowed inside grocery stores and supermarkets during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
This policy is in line with the restriction requiring only one member of a household to leave the house for essential needs, according to DILG Undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya
“Ito po kadalasan ay rules na pinapatupad ng local government units (LGUs), kasi nga po ang mga ECQ pass po ay ini-issue ng ating kaniya-kaniyang barangay o mga LGUs,” Malaya also said.
“So para po sa mas maayos na sistema at para makasiguro na iyong lumalabas lamang sa bahay ay iyong mga kuwalipikado na may pass, hinihingi po iyan ng mga supermarkets,” he added.
Last month, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año asked supermarkets and groceries to allow people to buy food and other household essentials without quarantine passes, saying some local governments do not issue such pass.
