Sana hindi madamay: Ping hopes Jinggoy ‘arrest’ won’t discourage volunteerism

The “arrest” of ex-Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada on Sunday should not discourage volunteerism during the COVID-19 crisis, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Monday.

Lacson, in a post on his Twitter account, said help given still helps, regardless of the motive behind it.

“I hope ex-Sen Estrada’s arrest will not discourage volunteerism during this time of crisis when Filipinos want to share whatever they can with those who direly need help. Regardless of the motive, help given still helps,” he said .

On Sunday, Estrada was brought to the San Juan City police station for allegedly violating rules of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

At the time, Estrada – who once served as mayor of the city – was distributing bangus in the city. The police said he did not have a permit from the mayor’s office.

Estrada, who was eventually released after getting a warning, claimed he was a victim of politics.

For his part, incumbent mayor Francis Zamora said Estrada had been holding “unauthorized” distribution of food in the city and should have secured the needed permits.
