President Rodrigo Duterte will sign the measure granting ABS-CBN a provisional franchise once it reaches his table, Malacañang assured Thursday.
“Inaasahan ko naman po na kung wala namang constitutional infirmity, pipirmahan naman po ito ni Presidente dahil pinarating na rin nya ang mensahe sa mga miyembro ng Kongreso: he’s neutral, do your constitutional function,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online press briefing.
Roque earlier said the Palace respects the decision of the House of Representatives to approve the bill allowing the media firm to operate until October 31, 2020.
“We respect that as it is their constitutional prerogative,” he also said.
On Wednesday, the Lower House convened itself into a Committee of the Whole and approved on second reading House Bill No. 6732 authorizing ABS-CBN to resume operations until the end of October.
