Work from home na lang! Find out which senators don’t want to attend Senate sessions

At least two senators are having second thoughts about going to the Senate on Monday (May 4) for the resumption of sessions due to the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said.

In a radio interview Saturday (May 2), Sotto said Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon and Senator Cynthia Villar may not be physically present for sessions.

Drilon earlier warned that holding sessions at the Senate will put senators and their staff at risk of contracting COVID-19. He said there was no need for senators to amend Senate rules to allow sessions and committee meetings to be held via teleconferencing.

Sotto, however, said he believes the Senate will be able to muster a quorum on Monday with at least 12 senators present. He said he will always be at the building to preside over the sessions.

The Senate President said one of the top items on the Senate’s agenda on Monday is the approval of the resolution that will allow sessions and committee meetings to be held via teleconferencing in times of national emergencies, like the COVID-19 crisis.
