President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to fire officials who failed to provide assistance to health workers who fell sick or died of coronavirus.
In a speech aired Friday morning, Duterte expressed his frustration over the delay in the distribution of sickness and death benefits for health workers.
“Mahirap kasi itong Pilipino hindi na natuto. Kakasabi ko lang when I give an order for something to be done, hindi ako nagbibilang ng buwan, nagbibilang lang ako ng araw. Team work lang tayo,” according to him.
“The power to appoint carries the power to dismiss and since it’s an absolute thing for a total lack of confidence, I am removing them because they are not functioning. We are wasting money paying for these idiots. Ang lalaki ng allowances at sweldo niyan,” he added.
During a meeting with the President, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said he has instructed his staff not to go home until the workers’ compensation claims are paid out.
“Nakakahiya talaga sir, namatayan na nga pero parang walang sense of urgency ang mga tao ko. Ang sama-sama ng loob ko,” he added.
