Palace: No need to appoint Robredo as IATF chief ‘if intentions are genuine’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang does not see the need to appoint Vice President Leni Robredo as the head of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was reacting to former senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s statement that Robredo should be appointed to the task force “if Malacañang really wants to flatten the curve.”

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III currently leads the IATF while Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles as sits as co-chairperson.

“Be that as it may, this does not diminish the fact we acknowledge the contributions of the Vice President in the fight against Covid-19,” Roque said in a statement Friday.

“She is helping in her own ways and if her intentions are genuine, there is no need for her to be appointed or designated in the IATF, as suggested by the former Senator,” he added.

Trillanes also slammed Roque for his remark last Wednesday that Robredo should just offer solutions instead of criticizing the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
