Politikos extend sympathies over death of Danding Cojuangco Jr.

Political kingmaker and tycoon Eduardo “Danding” M. Cojuangco Jr. passed away on Tuesday at the age of 85.

Cojuangco, former ambassador, was chairman of San Miguel Corporation as well as the chairman emeritus of the Nationalist People’s Coalition party. He celebrated his 85th birthday last June 10.

The death of the former ambassador triggered an outpouring of grief and tribute from politiko allies including Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Francis Tolentino and former Senators Francis Escudero and JV Ejercito.

Gatchalian took to Twitter to offer his condolences to the family of Cojuangco.

“My most sincere condolences to the family of Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. His dedication to his loved ones, his work, and his continued support towards nation-building will never be forgotten,” he said.

Escudero, now governor of Sorsogon, also mourned the passing of Cojuangco and sent his condolences to the family.

“My sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Boss Danding. My prayers go out to ECJ and to all of you during this time of sorrow,” Escudero tweeted.

Ejercito remembered Cojuangco as a “very nice person with a kind heart.”

“Woke up to a very sad news earlier. My Ninong Danding Cojuangco passed away. He is a very nice person with a kind heart. Super nice to me. He will be missed,” he said.

Other politikos have posted on social media their messages on the death of Cojuangco.

“RIP – Danding Cojuangco,” Senator Francis Tolentino wote on Facebook.

“Condolences to the Cojuangco family on the passing of one of their elders, Chairman Danding,” former Interior and Local Government Secretary Rafael Alunan III said in a Facebook post.
