Drug convict Jaybee Sebastian, the so called “king of drug lords” inside the New Bilibid Prison, has died due to COVID-19.
A source told Politiko that Sebastian died of COVID-19 Saturday (July 18). His remains were cremated on the same day at a crematorium in Cavite.
Sebastian, who was convicted of carjacking and kidnapping-for-ransom in 2009, testified against Senator Leila De Lima in cases regarding her supposed involvement in the illegal drug trade inside New Bilibid Prison.
He claimed that he helped De Lima collect funds from drug lords inside NBP for her 2016 senatorial bid. She has vehemently denied the allegation.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he is still verifying information on Sebastian’s death. The Bureau of Corrections confirmed there have been NBP inmates who died due to COVID-19 but refused to disclose details, citing the Data Privacy Act.
