Mahalin nyo ang trabaho nyo! Former PNP chief Lacson issues grim reminder to rogue cops

With the hefty salaries and benefits they are getting under the Duterte administration, it is only fair that members of the Philippine National Police “love” their work.

Senator and former PNP chief Panfilo Lacson issued this grim reminder Saturday, in the wake of recent incidents involving rogue policemen, including two in Ilocos Sur.

“Sa pulis nagtataka nga ako, sa kabila ng lahat na pabor at benepisyo at attention na binigay sa kanila ng Commander-in-Chief ngayon si Pangulong Duterte, bakit may ibang naliligaw pang tulad sa Ilocos Sur? Dapat mahal na mahal na nila ang kanilang trabaho. Ang patrolman, P30K, saan ka makakahanap ang entry level P30K, may allowances pa at lahat,” Lacson said in an interview on Abante Radyo Tabloidista.

He was referring to two policemen who face rape and murder charges in Ilocos Sur for allegedly raping and killing a 15-year-old girl and raping the victim’s 18-year-old cousin.

The victim and her cousin filed complaints against the two. On July 2, after following up on the complaints, the 15-year-old was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding men.

Lacson noted it was Duterte’s initiative that Congress passed Joint Resolution 1 doubling the salaries and pension of police personnel.

“Dapat mahalin nila at mahiya sila sa balat nila dahil lahat na benepisyo binibigay sa hanay nila. Pag may namamatay sa hanay nila, nauna ang Pangulo pa pumupunta roon at nagbibigay ng financial assistance sa naiwang pamilya. Pagka nagkasakit ganoon din, binibigyan ng attention kaagad. Kaya ang mga pulis na gumagawa ng ganoon talagang kulang sa pag-iisip. Kung hindi man talagang tama ang description ni CPNP Gamboa na parang mga hayop ang mga ito na wala sa wastong pag-iisip at dapat talaga mawala agad sa serbisyo,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lacson said it is important that the PNP leadership act immediately on abuses. He noted PNP chief Archie Gamboa had done so by taking immediate action against the two Ilocos policemen.

“So hindi mawawala yan, may maliligaw at maliligaw na scalawags sa hanay ng pulisya. Ang mas importante ang liderato may ginagawa,” he said.

“Maski kapanahunan ko bilang Chief PNP meron talagang naliligaw at naliligaw nangongotong, pero ang importante ang liderato alisto naman na i-check agad at ikulong kaagad at i-dismiss kaagad,” he added.
