Biro lang, walang personalan! Angara downplays Pia Cayetano’s outburst

Senator Sonny Angara doesn’t want to make a big deal out of Senator Pia Cayetano’s outburst over some of their colleagues’ insinuation that representatives from the House of Representatives had ulterior motives in pushing for certain amendments in the proposed Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.

In a radio interview Saturday (August 22), Angara said he has talked to Cayetano to clear things.

Cayetano cried foul after Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III joked during the plenary session on August 20 that senators were “selfless” during the bicameral conference committee meetings on the Bayanihan 2 bill.

A visibly irked Cayetano said: “On behalf of my former colleagues in the House, I’d like to put on record that I do take offense na ang dami nating parinig na parang yung sa kanila may personal gain.”

Cayetano, whose brother, Alan Peter, is the House Speaker, said it was up to lawmakers to push for the allocation of funds in a particular agency if they feel the money will be spent well there.

Politiko earlier reported that Alan pushed for the placement of P10-billion tourism recovery fund in the Bayanihan 2 under the Tourism Infrastructure an Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) as “pabaon” or parting gift for his allies.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said the bicameral conference committee has decided that P6 billion will go to assistance programs for micro, small and medium enterprises within the tourism sector, while displaced tourism workers will receive P3 billion in aid.

The remaining P1 billion from the tourism sector’s recovery fund will go to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
