Authorities are now looking at illegal drug trade instead of a love triangle as the primary motive for killing female driver Jang Lucero in Laguna last June, Politiko has learned.
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) head agent Daniel Daganzo, whose team is leading the investigation into Lucero’s death, told Politiko that investigators are digging into the possible involvement of an organized crime group linked to a convicted drug lord.
“We are looking into an organized crime group with money for a well-funded campaign on social media to pin down an earlier dismissed suspect,” Daganzo told Politiko.
An NBI source said the possible mastermind behind Lucero’s killing appears to be a “high-value target with connection to convicted Chinese drug lords.’’
“The motive for the killings is not only crime of passion, but distribution of illegal drugs,” the source said.
Lucero was found dead inside her car in Calamba City with 52 stab wounds. Her former girlfriend, Sheila Belarmino, was earlier tagged as a suspect in her killing.
Daganzo, however, said investigators have found that there are trolls on social media insisting on Belarmino’s involvement in the crime even in the absence of evidence pointing to it.
Police filed a murder case against Belarmino, but the city prosecutors’ office junked it due to insufficient evidence.
