Malacañang welcomed the slower rise of unemployment in July, attributing this to the reopening of the economy from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that unemployment rate eased to 10 percent or 4.6 million jobless Filipinos in July from April’s 17.7 percent (7.3 million Filipinos) when the country imposed one of the strictest coronavirus lockdowns in the world.
“Siyempre po iyan po ay mabuting balita na habang nagbubukas po ang ekonomiya, mas marami siyempre ang nakakapagtatrabaho na,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online public briefing Thursday.
Roque also reiterated the importance of observing the basic health protocols to help reduce the spread of the virus.
“Kasi habang ginagawa po natin iyan ay nabubuhay tayo in spite and despite Covid-19.
