Palace Spokesperson Harry Roque has denied meeting with Atty. Rowena Garcia-Flores, the lawyer of Private First Class Joseph Scott Permberton, convicted of killing a transgender woman Jennifer Laude, when he was still in Congress.
Roque, who had served as counsel for the Laude family in the criminal case against Pemberton in 2014, dismissed as a “lie” Garcia-Flores’ recent remark that he agreed to the American soldier’s release on parole in 2017.
“I’m asking now the Secretary General of the House of Representative, sir, pakigawa nga po ng certification kung ni minsan nagpunta si Attorney Flores sa aking tanggapan doon sa Kongreso noong ako ay kongresista pa,” the official said during his virtual presser in Malacañang Thursday.
“Kung ako po ay pumayag nang 2017 eh bakit hanggang ngayon ay nakakulong pa si Pemberton? It doesn’t make sense po,” he also said.
Roque earlier denounced the early release of Pemberton, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for homicide, due to good behavior.
