President Rodrigo Duterte believes Health Secretary Francisco Duque III has never stolen from public money.
In a televised speech aired Tuesday, Duterte again defended Duque, saying that he is not part of the massive corruption at the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth.
“Secretary Duque was not a part of PhilHealth. As a matter of fact, he was not even reporting. That’s why ‘yung Congress noong sabi nila i-suspend or oust si Duque, I said, ‘For what?’ Kasi nauna kami, sa amin galing ‘yan eh,” according to the chief executive.
“So binasa ko, what ground would I base my decision? Would I just obey the cry of one million as against my assessment na si Duque walang nanakaw kung pera ang pag-usapan? Maybe some other things. He might be some other things but corruption no, pera wala,” he added.
Duterte earlier ordered the Department of Justice to form a task force to investigate the alleged corruption and anomalies in PhilHealth.
