Special envoy to China Ramon Tulfo said Speaker Alan Cayetano’s has brought shame to the House of Representatives with his dogged refusal to step down from his post as agreed in a term-sharing deal brokered by President Rodrigo Duterte himself.
Tulfo said Cayetano has made the House “worse than a den of thieves” for his scorched strategy to cling to his post and prevent Marinduque Rep. Lord Velasco from take over as they have agreed in their pact.
“How can the public respect the House if its speaker does not honor his word? There is honor even among thieves, as the saying goes. The House of Representatives is worse than a den of thieves,” said Tulfo.
Under the power sharing deal, Cayetano is only supposed to stay for 15 months since getting elected as Speaker in July 2019. He has been told to step down by October 14 and give way to Velasco who will serve the last 21 months in office.
