Palace ‘confident’ 2021 budget will be passed on Oct. 16

By Prince Golez

Malacañang expressed confidence that the proposed P4.5-trillion national budget for 2021 will be passed on October 16.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the House of Representatives should approve the 2021 budget then so the Senate can work on it.

“I am confident that Speaker (Lord Allan) Velasco, as he promised the Presidente, can pass it on the 16th,” Roque told CNN Philippines Wednesday.

If the Lower House fails to do so, the Palace official said that another special session can be called in November to ensure the timely passage of the budget bill.

“But, it’s absolutely indispensable, of course, that it is signed within the month of December and published in Official Gazette and in two newspapers of general circulation so that it can be effective the 1st of January,” he added.

Following its resumption of plenary deliberations on the proposed 2021 budget, the House of Representative recalled the second reading approval of House Bill No. 7727 or the 2021 General Appropriations Bill and moved to reconsider the termination of the period of amendments and debates.
