Malacañang distanced itself from the “personal opinion” of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago on detained activist Reina Mae Nasino and her three-month-old daughter, River.
Pialago, a former beauty pageant candidate, drew public ire after she told the public to stop sympathizing with Nasino, who was only given a limited time to visit her baby’s wake.
“Tingin ko personal na opinion niya yan. Hindi naman kasi related sa MMDA ang issue na yan. Hayaan natin magkaroon ng personal na opinion si Spokesperson Pialago,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser Monday.
In a recent Facebook post, Pialago wrote that Nasino’s supporters turned her plight into a “drama serye sa hapon.”
Amid calls for a public apology, the MMDA spokesperson has refused to withdraw her statement.
