Palace open to more funding for coronavirus vaccines

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang expressed support for initiatives in Congress to increase funds for the procurement of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccines.

This, after several lawmakers lamented that the P2.5 billion allocation for Covid-19 vaccines under the proposed 2021 budget will not be enough to cover the country’s entire population.

“The power of the purse is vested in Congress. We will bow to the wisdom of congress should they deem it fit to increase the budget for the vaccine,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.

Roque also urged Congress to coordinate with the executive department on funding sources.

“May pagkukuhanan po yan so we hope Congress will at least confer with the Executive kung saan nila kukunin ang pondo para itaas ang budget for the vaccine,” according to him.

“We join Congress in our desire that we should have sufficient fund to pay for the vaccine,” he concluded.
