Palace respects cop deployment at River Nasino wake

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang said it respects the security arrangement during the wake and burial of Baby River, daughter of political prisoner Reina Mae Nasino.

In a virtual presser Monday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque disagreed with Vice President Leni Robredo’s statement that the heavy police presence at Nasino’s funeral was an “overkill.”

“Alam niyo, the President does not micromanage. In matters of securing an accused facing a non-bailable offense, the President can never substitute his judgement from that of the commander on the ground,” Roque also said.

“We respect whatever the decision of the commander may have been on the ground. If he felt that such security arrangement was necessary, so be it,” he added.

Three-month-old infant River Nasino died of pneumonia complications on October 9.
