It is the responsibility of the ordinary Filipino to be vigilant and make sure public funds are not wasted on corruption and incompetence, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said over the weekend.
Lacson called on the public to watch how their monies are being spent, and to report to the proper authorities any misuse or abuse of such funds.
“Ang panawagan sa kababayan natin kasi sila naman ang nasa distrito, bantayin ang pondong umaagos sa distrito at mag-report sila kung meron silang nakitang misuse o pag-abuso sa paggamit ng pondo. After all ito ang nanggaling sa buwis na binabayaran nila,” he said in an interview on DZBB and GMA News TV on Sunday.
In past weeks, Lacson bared several questionable items in the P4.5-trillion budget for 2021, including more than P500 billion in lump sums and reappropriations in the Department of Public Works and Highways’ 2021 budget.
He reiterated all Filipinos pay taxes, whether directly or indirectly.
“Lahat tayo hagip ng buwis. Bumili ka sa grocery hagip ka ng 12% VAT. Ang mag-file ng income tax hagip din ng tax,” he said.
“So responsibilidad ng ating mga kababayan na bantayan ang national budget. Palagi kong sinasabi na lifeblood ito ng ating ekonomiya pati ng ating bansa,” he added.
