Tameme kay Digong! Cayetano welcomes special sessions on Oct 13 to 16

House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has welcomed President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for Congress to hold a special session from October 13 to 16 to pass the proposed 2021 national budget.

In a statement Friday (October 9), Cayetano said Congress will continue working on the general appropriations bill’s passage.

“We trust his wisdom on how to address issues concerning the budget, and thank him for his continued confidence by allowing Congress to pass the General Appropriations Bill free from the specter of politicking and intrigues that we had originally sought to avoid,” Cayetano said of Duterte.

Cayetano had the session suspended from October 6 to November 16, a bid seen to prevent an election happening on October 14 for the position of Speaker.

Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco had demanded that Cayetano step down on October 14 in accordance with their term sharing agreement, which was brokered in Duterte’s presence.

The 2021 national budget has been affected by the suspension of sessions at the House as Cayetano set its passage on third reading and transmittal to the Senate on November 16.
