With the launch of the 2021 Toyota Fortuner, there were those who worried about the fate of Toyota’s venerable Land Cruiser Prado. Well, it seems we finally have our answer, albeit silently as Toyota Motor Philippines has now upgraded its luxury SUV for 2021 as well.
Priced at P 4.170 million (that’s a P 69,000 increase if you want to keep count), the 2021 Land Cruiser Prado finally gets the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine which replaces the aging 3.0-liter 1KD-FTV. Even better, the Prado skips the first-generation 1GD engine altogether, and heads straight over to the second-generation engine. Like its application in the Fortuner and Hilux, it also gets 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Toyota Motor Philippines has also dropped the manual version.
Mated to a 6-speed automatic, Toyota says the 2021 Land Cruiser Prado is faster to the century mark by three seconds compared to its predecessor (0-100 km/h in just 9.9 seconds), while top speed is pegged at 175 km/h. Despite being faster, average fuel consumption has been improved 4 percent.
Surprisingly, the 4.0-liter V6 gasoline version gets a reprieve for 2021. In fact, it continues largely unchanged with just a P 6,000 increase to P 3.369 million. For those wanting this engine, it gets you 275 horsepower and 381 Nm of torque.
Aside from the new engine, the 2021 Land Cruiser Prado gets minor exterior changes such as anew wheel design and taillights, as well as an improved interior with new gauges and infotainment system.
