Velasco apologizes to Duterte, public for House ‘theatrics’

Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco apologized on Friday night to President Rodrigo Duterte and the Filipino people for the ongoing fiasco in the House of Representatives.

He lashed out at Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for his “orchestrated lies” to escape the term-sharing deal for the speakership.

In a recorded video uploaded on his social media accounts on Friday night, Velasco apologized for the chaotic developments, saying the real reason for the squabble over the 15-21 term-sharing deal was the proposed 2021 budget.

“Sa gitna ng kaguluhang ito, I want to assure President Duterte and the Filipino people that I will abide by our agreement despite the unwillingness of Speaker Cayetano,” he said.

“Let us stop with the theatrics and work to pass a budget that is responsive to the needs of our people,” Velasco said.

“Humihingi po tayo ng paumanhin kay Pangulong Duterte sa mga pangyayari sa kabila ng buong-pusong pag-aayos niya sa gusot,” he said.

“To the Filipino people whom we have promised to serve, I express my deep apology on behalf my colleagues in Congress because you don’t deserve this. Bilang halal ng bayan at inyong lingkod-bayan, kayo ay dapat pagsilbihan,” he added.

“Humihingi po ako ng paumanhin at pang-unawa. Nakakahiya ang mga nangyayari- we are congressmen. We are called Honorables. Our Word is our Honor. The people should be able to trust their leaders when they give their word,” Velasco said.

Addressing Cayetano, he said: “You gave your word in front of the President to honor the term-sharing agreement.”

“Please I appeal to you: Finish the budget and resign on October 14,” he said.
