Duterte ‘calm’ in meeting with BI execs linked to ‘pastillas’ scam – Palace

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte was “calm” during his meeting with suspended immigration personnel tagged in the so-called “pastillas” scheme Monday, Malacañang said.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, in a virtual presser Tuesday, confirmed that Duterte gave each of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel money rolled up in paper and asked them to eat it.

During yesterday’s meeting, Duterte reiterated his campaign pledge of zero corruption in his administration and told the BI personnel facing charges to defend themselves.

Under the “pastillas” scheme, some immigration personnel receive bribes in exchange for the entry of Chinese nationals working in the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators.
