Palace defends Duterte’s ‘mukhang pera’ vs PH Red Cross: Let him say what he wants to say

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Friday defended President Rodrigo Duterte’s unsavory remark calling the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) greedy.

In his weekly address yesterday, Duterte described the PRC as “mukhang pera,” after he learned that the organization resumed its coronavirus (Covid-19) testing services following the partial payment of PhilHealth’s debt of more than P1 billion.

“Let’s allow na lang the President to say what he wants to say,” according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Let that remain on record. Bahala na ang PRC to construe what the President said,” Roque said in an interview in an interview over state-run PTV’s Laging Handa public briefing.

Covid-19 tests carried out by the PRC accounts for 25 percent of all testing done in the country.
