Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate has dispelled President Duterte’s allegations about his son’s education abroad.

In a Facebook post, Zarate said his son’s education in Poland was mainly shouldered by relatives overseas, contrary to Duterte’s claims it was funded by money collected by the New People’s Army.

Duterte, in his talk to the people Monday night, alleged that Zarate could be using the rebel “taxes” to fund his son’s schooling in Europe. He made the allegation while reading a thick government file on the party-list lawmaker.

“In September 2017, my son, Xandro, an only child, went to Poland and took up philosophy at Pope John Paul II University. He came home in July 2019 to complete his bachelor’s degree in a school here,” he said.

“His tuition, board and other expenses were mainly sponsored by relatives residing abroad,” he said.

Zarate also said he contributed money while son was studying abroad.

“His mother, a lawyer, and I also supported him within our means of income. The expenses for his studies and upkeep came from honest and legitimate sources,” he said.
