Never say never: Drug-free Philippines by 2022 still possible, says Palace

By Prince Golez

The Duterte administration is still pushing to achieve a drug-free Philippines by 2022, MalacaƱang said Thursday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment despite the statement of Dangerous Drugs Board chairman Catalino Cuy that the government may not meet its target of a drug-free country when President Rodrigo Duterte steps down once his term expires in 2022

If local governments cooperate, the country can still successfully eliminate the illegal drug trade within two years, Roque said during a televised briefing.

“Sa ngayon, out of 42,045 barangays eh 20,538 na ang drug-free,” the secretary said.

“Kampante tayo na kung makipagtulungan talaga ang lokal na pamalahaan na yung natitirang 14,308 barangay ay pagiging drug-free pagdating ng pagtapos ng termino ng ating Presidente,” he concluded.
