Duterte allows face-to-face medical classes in MGCQ, GCQ areas

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte has allowed in-person classes for medical courses and allied programs in higher education institutions (HEIs) in areas under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), according to Malacañang.

In his televised briefing Tuesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said HEIs in GCQ areas with base hospitals that cater to patients with coronavirus disease can also hold face-to-face classes.

“Ito ay para hindi tayo maubusan ng mga duktor kung hindi po magpapatuloy yung mga face to face na mga duktor at allied medical profession,” according to Roque.

Last October, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases allowed the University of the Philippines to resume its face-to-face medical internship program at the Philippine General Hospital.

“The face-to-face clinical internship program of UP-PGH shall be allowed to resume as an exception in the application of the pertinent provisions of the Omnibus Guidelines in the Implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines, as amended, and such other issuances as may have been issued by the Commission on Higher Education,” the IATF reso read.
