President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for telecommunication companies to “shape up” their customer experience, Malacañang said.
Roque said Duterte has agreed that Internet speed and connectivity in the Philippines should be at levels similar to that of Vietnam and Thailand.
According to Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index, the country’s internet speed in terms of mobile data speed ranks 110th out of 139 countries, with an average of 18.49 megabits per second (Mbps) as of November 2020 compared to last year’s record of 17.15 Mbps.
In terms of fixed broadband speed, the Philippines placed 103rd out of 176 countries, with an average of 28.69 Mbps.
