In bid to boost public confidence, Palace pushes for vaccine education

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stressed the need to educate the public on the importance of vaccination to to boost confidence in the coronavirus vaccines.

The government aims to start vaccinations as early as February this year.

“Importante po talaga na i-promote natin ang vaccine education sa panahon po na marami po talagang hindi naman experts na nagsasamantala para sumikat lamang,” Roque said in his virtual presser Thursday.

“Kung anu-anong mga ginagawa, kung pano pong nangyari nasira ang vaccine confidence natin dahil dito sa mga di naman eksperto na kung ano-anong kabulastugan ang ikinalat, ang panlaban po natin ang mga tunay na eksperto gaya ninyo,” he added.

In the same briefing, Dr. Charles Yu, Vice-Chancellor of the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, said the public should trust vaccines that have been given emergency use authorization, adding that they passed through strict process and criteria from regulatory authorities and vaccine experts.

Yu also encouraged Filipinos to support mass vaccination in order to go back to the normal way of living.

“Karamihan ng mga tao hindi naintindihan na ‘pag sinabi mong ‘herd immunity’, hindi iyong mga binakunahan ang gusto mong proteksiyunan. So sa kaso ng Covid-19, ini-estimate na dapat 60 to 70 percent ng ating populasyon ay dapat mabakunahan.” the former President of the Philippine College of Physicians and the Philippine College of Chest Physicians said.

“‘Pag nabakunahan mo ang 60 to 70 percent, mapuproteksiyunan mo na ngayon iyong 30 to 40 percent na hindi nabakunahan; iyon ‘yung konsepto ng herd immunity,” he added.
