China is not included in the expanded travel ban imposed by the Philippine government to combat the highly infectious new coronavirus (Covid-19) strain as international agencies have yet to confirm that it has spread in the East Asian country, according to Malacañang.
“Hindi pa po iyan nari-report ng mga international agencies na kumpirmado. Ang alam lang po natin ay media reports,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during his televised briefing Thursday.
Roque said travels coming from China will be banned from entering the Philippines when there’s confirmation.
On Wednesday, the government expanded its COVID travel ban to include Portugal, India, Finland, Norway, Jordan, and Brazil.
Last December, the Philippines imposed entry restrictions on visitors from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, Japan, Australia, Israel, The Netherlands, Hong Kong SAR, Switzerland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Lebanon, Singapore, Sweden, South Korea, South Africa, Canada, and Spain.
The ban will last until January 15.
