Philippines sets conditions for entry of foreign nationals amid new Covid variant

By Prince Golez

Beginning February 1, arriving foreign nationals should have valid and existing visas to enter the country, MalacaƱang announced Friday.

This new policy, adopted by the government’s coronavirus (Covid-19) task force last January 28, does not cover those qualified under the Balikbayan program under Republic Act No. 6768, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

In a statement, Roque said foreign nationals must have a pre-booked accommodation for at least seven nights in an accredited quarantine hotel or facility prior to entry.

They should also be subject to Covid-19 testing at the quarantine hotel or facility on the sixth day from the date of their arrival.

“The entry of these foreign nationals will be subject to the maximum capacity of inbound passengers at the port and date of entry,” the Palace official said.

Roque said the Bureau of Immigration has been directed to formulate the necessary rules and regulations.
