MalacaƱang defended on Monday the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte to prioritize the families of all soldiers in the government’s coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination program.
The government initially announced that healthcare workers, the poor, and uniformed personnel would first receive Covid-19 shots.
“‘Wag naman po kayo mag-alala kasi sa ating intiial list, 24 million ang ating babakunahan. If at all, siguro madadagdagan ito ng mga 2 million if there are three members of a family of the men in uniform,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
“Sobra-sobra naman po yung inaasahan na nating dadating na bakuna by the 2nd or 3rd quarter of the year,” he added.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr., also the chief implementer of the National Task Force against Covid-19,, said the Philippines aims to inoculate 50 million to 70 million people this year.
