Paging LTO! Face masks not needed when driving alone: Nograles

By Prince Golez

Drivers who are alone in their vehicles need not wear masks while driving, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles clarified.

Nograles issued the remark on Tuesday after the Land Transportation Office insisted that persons inside private or public vehicles must wear face masks.

Cited an advisory from the Department of Health (DOH), the co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, said “those driving alone may remove their masks while inside their vehicle.”

“I think that is only logical; if there is no one in the vehicle with you, you cannot infect anyone else,” he also said.

However, Nograles reminded the public against complacency in dealing with the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic despite the easing of quarantine restrictions and the forthcoming roll-out of the government’s vaccine plan.

“Kailangan natin magtulungan; wag po natin kalimutan na lahat tayo kailangan maging BIDA,” the official said referring to the DOH’s Bida Solusyon campaign.
