Palace appreciates filing of Bayanihan 3 bill, but…

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Monday said it appreciates the filing of a bill proposing a third installment of the Bayanihan Law that seeks to earmark P430-billion to fund the country’s coronavirus (Covid-19) response.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, however, said the 2021 budget will be enough to combat the Covid-19 pandemic that has infected more than 500,000 people in the Philippines.

“We appreciate the policy initiatives of (House) Speaker (Lord Allan) Velasco. Pero ang consistent position natin diyan ay meron tayong sapat na fiscal stimulus ngayon sa ating annual budget at pinapatupad pa natin ang Bayanihan 2,” Roque said during his virtual presser.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11519 extending the validity of the 2020 national budget and the Bayanihan to Recover As One Act until December 31, 2021 and June 30, 2021, respectively.

“Pero siyempre, we appreciate the filing of Baynihan 3 dahil kung kulang talaga then we will, of course, resort to Bayanihan 3,” the spokesman said.

“Sa ngayon po, tignan po muna natin kung ano ang mangayayari sa pagpapatupad ng 2021 budget at yung pagpapatupad pa rin ng Bayanihan 2 na extended po ngayon taong ito,” he added.
