Convicted murderer Joel Capones has testified that he saw Senator Leila De Lima receive P1.4 million from late convicted carjacker Jaybee Sebastian inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City in 2014, said a Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutor.
Prosecution team head Provincial Prosecutor Ramoncito Bienvenido Ocampo Jr. said the witness revealed his testimony during the trial hearing of her drug case at the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 256 last Tuesday (Feb. 23).
“In his testimony, (Capones) delivered first the money to Jaybee Sebastian — the P1.4 million, and when the senator then Secretary of Justice arrived, Jaybee Sebastian handed the money to Sec. De Lima. That is part of the testimony,” said Ocampo.
De Lima is facing drug charges concerning her involvement in the proliferation of the narcotics trading at the NBP.
“His testimony is very clear as far as we are concern,” Ocampo said.
“We leave it to the court for its appreciation of our evidence as far as the gist of the testimony of Joel Capones,” he added.
Among the drug charges filed against her, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 205 has already dismissed one case where her co-accused is Jose Adrian Dera who was not as lucky.
