President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the proposal to provide in-kind assistance to residents affected by the weeklong enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the National Capital Region and four nearby provinces.
“Iyong mga nadiskaril sa finances nila, na-ano kayo sa pera. Naghirap kayo kasi hindi makalabas. Magdasal lang kayo. We will give you the ayuda,” Duterte said in his televised address Monday evening.
Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado said that P1,000 worth of in-kind aid will be distributed to low-income individuals from Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna, which will be coursed through local government units.
“Wala po tayong cash po dito po. We will leave it to the local government units dahil sila naman talaga ang first line of pinupuntahan ng mga tao na sila po ang mag-allocate nito base po doon sa approval ninyo na at least 1,000 pesos per person,” Avisado told the Chief Executive.
Over 22 million poor individuals from ECQ-affected areas will benefit from the dole out program.
