By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte does not want to call the two-week extension of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in NCR Plus a “hybrid” MECQ, Malacañang said Thursday.

Metro Manila mayors earlier recommended to put the capital region under “hybrid MECQ,” which will allow more businesses to resume operations while maintaining public health measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.

“Ayaw po ng Presidente na maraming mga pangalan. Tama na po ang MECQ,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.

“Pero nagkasundo nga po na in order to promote the total health of yung ating kababayan eh bigyan natin ng mas maraming mga hanapbuhay bagamat tayo po’y nasa MECQ,” added Roque.

On Wednesday, Duterte retained the MECQ classification of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal from May 1 to 14.

Santiago City in Isabela, and the provinces of Quirino and Abra will also be remain under MECQ next month.
