Erap remains in ‘stable but guarded condition’ in ICU — Jinggoy

Former President Joseph Estrada remains confined at a hospital battling a coronavirus infection.

Estrada has been transferred to an intensive care unit (ICU) and so far remained in “stable but guarded condition,” according to his son former Senator Jinggoy Estrada.

The medical bulletin of Estrada, posted by Jinggoy on his Facebook page, was released after the former leader became a victim of a death hoax on April 4.

“Former president Joseph Estrada is currently confined due to Covid pneumonia,” the medical bulletin read.

The medical bulletin also stated that Estrada has been placed on oxygen support and sedated to prevent any health complications.

“While he needed to be placed on high flow oxygen support, we are thankful that there has been no need to put him on a ventilator. However, he is being sedated to lessen his anxiety which may affect his heart and aggravate his condition. Thus, he has been moved to the ICU for closer observation,” the bulletin read.

“Currently, he is in a stable but guarded condition,” it added.

The Estrada clan likewise remained grateful for the prayers and well wishes for the former president.

“The family would like to thank everyone who has expressed their love and support and we request continued prayers for his immediate recovery. Thank you very much,” the bulletin read.

In an earlier Facebook post, Jinggoy rejected rumors that his father passed away. “This is not true,” he said.

Estrada recently tested positive for the coronavirus. He appeared in a Facebook video saying he felt strong and urged fellow Filipinos to stay healthy in the face of the pandemic.
