MalacaƱang on Thursday disagreed with the statement of Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian that some Philippine officials are “hyping up” issues in the West Philippine Sea.
In a televised briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the lingering presence of the Chinese vessels in the Julian Felipe Reef is a “statement of fact.”
Roque was reacting to the appeal of Lijian to the Philippines to “stop” hyping up the issue and giving negative reactions to the situation in the West Philippine Sea that can adversely affect the bilateral relations and peace and stability in the disputed seas.
Lijian said that China was “ready” to resolve the ongoing territorial dispute between the two countries “through friendly consultations.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs earlier summoned Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian to express “utmost displeasure” over the continued presence of Chinese vessels at the reef.
