President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday congratulated National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) chief Karl Chua for the pilot launch of the online registration for the Philippine Identification System.
A national ID system is the “dream of every administrator in government,” Duterte said in a pre-recorded “Talk to the People” address.
“This is something which has been long I said been the dream of every administrator in government. I congratulate you. Do not worry. You give your precious time to the people. Saludo ako diyan,” the Chief Executive said.
“Matagal na talagang gustong-gusto natin ‘yan. Ang problema ang una, the loudest that we could hear at that time was the left, ayaw nila kasi it will identify [them]. May syndrome ‘yan sila so hindi natin masisi,” he added.
Prior to this, Chua apologized for the “inconvenience” and “technical issues” during the first day of the online registration for the national ID system.
“I have conveyed my sincerest apologies to the Filipino people for the inconvenience at ngayon po kausap namin araw-araw ‘yong mga international and local experts para tulungan po tayo na i-improve ‘yong capacity at dahil ito ay isang pilot ay we will make sure to learn from our experience,” he said.
