President Duterte is not totally ruling out a possible run for vice president in next year’s elections.
The President’s chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo said the President will be open to such vice presidential bid if there will be a clamor from his supporters.
Panelo spoke about the President’s political plans during an interview with “The Chiefs” program on TV5 on May 25.
The video of the talk show hosted by veteran journalists Amy Pamintuan and Luchi Valdes was shared on Facebook.
“Si Presidente magiging open lang ‘yan pag makit niyang may clamor, pag malakas ang clamor,” Panelo said, when Pamintuan asked him if the President was interested in running for vice president.
When Pamintuan asked him if the President has not closed his door to VP bid, Panelo said he asked Duterte who then said “I’ll leave it to God.”
“In other words, naniniwala siya kung nakatadhana ka, ‘yun ang mangyayari,” he said.
Duterte will be saying goodbye to Malacañang next year after six years in office. He told his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte not to run for president despite some supporters urging her to seek the top government position.
