President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday threatened to campaign against Senator Manny Pacquiao should the lawmaker fail to prove his allegations that corruption has worsened during the present administration.
Duterte challenged Pacquiao, a possible presidential candidate in the 2022 national elections, to name government offices involved in corrupt practices.
“Three times daw tayo mas corrupt. So I am challenging him, ituro mo ang opisina na corrupt at ako na ang bahala. Within one week may gawain ako,” the country’s chief executive said in his weekly public address.
The President said he will expose the boxing champion “as a “liar” if he can’t substantiate his claims.
“If you fail to do that, I will campaign against you because you are not doing your duty. Do it because if not, I will just tell the people: ‘Do not vote for Pacquiao because he is a liar’,” he added.
Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is considered a frontrunner for next year’s presidential elections.
