The call of President Rodrigo Duterte to arm civilian organizations was just “an idea,” Malacañang clarified Monday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte’s statement is still not a government policy.
“He’s open to the idea pero wala pa namang pong finality,” Roque said during his televised briefing.
“It’s an idea. It’s not yet a policy… I am sure it will be subjected to full staff work,” he added.
During the launch of the Global Coalition of Lingkod Bayan Advocacy Support Groups and Force Multipliers last Friday, Duterte said he was “open” to allowing civilian groups and anti-crime volunteers to “get a gun” and help the police enforce the laws.
