President Rodrigo Duterte has allowed the use of Pfizer and Western-made Covid-19 vaccine brands for Filipino seafarers, spokesman said on Thursday.
During the symbolic vaccination of seafarers held at Palacio de Maynila in Manila City, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said employers require seafarers to be vaccinated with Western-made vaccines before embarkation.
“Ang Pfizer para sa seaman, dinesisyunan ng Presidente. Nais niya magkaroon sila ng patuloy na hanapbuhay,” said Roque.
“Sabi naman ni Presidente, walang violation ng equal protection clause, walang favoritism dahil kung hindi sila bibigyan ng Pfizer ang mga seamen baka hindi makakasakay muli sa mga barko,” according to him.
He added that this vaccination effort shows the government’s resolve to ensure the right of the seafarers to livelihood.
