Senate President Tito Sotto, a stalwart of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, said Senator Ping Lacson and he were “seriously considering” running together for president and vice president respectively in the 2022 elections.
“We are seriously considering it. I think our consultative meetings will help a lot,” he said in a Zoom interview with reporters.
Sotto said Lacson, who is an independent, had a chance of getting adopted by the NPC and becoming its standard-bearer in the 2022 elections, though talks remain fluid.
“That is a possibility but I can’t speak in behalf of my whole party. I can get the support of majority of our party. Consultative pa rin yan. We have never been that way. 98 percent of NPC members remain NPC members,” he said.
As for Senator Win Gatchalian, who is also with the NPC, Sotto said he had not talked with him about the former’s plans.
“We have not talked. He has not told us or any of the member of the party. As much as i know, he was running for reelection…but we are not sure,” Sotto said.
He said “anything is possible at this point,” including a teamup with PDP-Laban acting president and Senator Manny Pacquiao, though there were no current plans for that.
“Anything is possible at this point but if you ask me about sen pacquiao, wala naman akong planong makihalo…majority of PDP-Laban is supporting Senator Pacquiao. from Senator (Koko) Pimentel down to local officials,” he said.
