Duterte wishes next admin will be ‘more competent, brighter’ than his

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he was hoping that the next administration will be “more competent” in addressing the issues and challenges facing the country.

“I hope that the next administration will be more competent than us now, [brighter] than us now, and more productive than us now,” Duterte said in a televised address late Monday.

The President made the statement after he welcomed the World Bank’s apology after it released a report on the state of the Philippine education.

The government could improve the quality of public service if the Philippines had a better economy, according to him.

“Mahirap lang talaga kasi tayo. We are third world country classified as one. Ang mahirap sa atin is always the constraint of money. Eh kung may pera lang talaga sana tayo, kung maganda lang ang ating ekonomiya, and we’re earning just this much, we could have improved on the governance of all departments, all facets of governance,” said Duterte.

“Ang problema nito wala masyado tayong pera. But what we have is enough to what you see now, that is the only thing that money can afford na nakikita ninyo ngayon. Kung may pera sana na marami, then we could have upgraded everything to compete or reach in parity with other first-class countries,” he added.
