Supreme Court (SC) Justice Marvic Leonen has submitted a draft on the rules concerning the use of body cameras during police operations.
The SC Public Information Office (SCPIO) said in a statement Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo revealed this himself during a courtesy call made by the Philippine National Police (PNP) led by its chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday (July 2).
“We assure you that the courts will do its part in ensuring that the constitutional rights guaranteed under the Constitution, as well as your responsibilities and duties as law enforcers, are properly considered and balanced,” Gesmundo told the PNP.
“We try to achieve that balance so that the end goal is we do not disregard the constitutional rights of people, but at the same time, the law enforcers are also given adequate leeway to effectively discharge your functions,” he added.
Gesmundo also informed the PNP that the SC has made arrangements with the Philippine Judicial Academy, its judicial education arm, to provide the training of all those involved in the implementation of these rules.
He also invited the PNP to send participants to the training.
